TSBDE Rule Updates

Continuing Education

In 2020, the TSBDE voted to allow licensees to obtain continuing education (CE) through online or live (interactive) webinars. Live webinar courses count as CE hours achieved in a classroom setting and not as self-study hours. For a webinar course to count toward the required 16 technical and scientific hours for license renewal, the course must allow participants the opportunity to interact in real time with the speaker. Additionally, the course completion documentation must reflect that the class was an “interactive” webinar. Non-live webinar courses and online CE courses can be used as the 8 CE hours allowed for self-study.

Disciplinary Matrix

The Disciplinary Matrix is a public document voted on by the TSBDE and published in the Texas Register. The matrix assists agency staff and board members in the appropriate negotiation of settlements by identifying possible sanctions and requirements for specific violations.  It also provides notice to licensees of the possible consequences of conduct that violates the Dental Practice Act or TSBDE rules.
